Distrokid, the awesome music distribution company, has official acquired Bandzoogle, my least favorite website tool.
Don’t get me wrong, Bandzoogle has great prices, great customer support and lots of templates. I just hate their awful website builder and lack of email automation features.
Despite that brutal website builder, Bandzoogle has helped artists make $100M in direct-to-fan sales over their journey.
Personally I think this is a great move for DistroKid. They also provide music distribution, music video distribution, audio mastering, visualizer creation and a marketing phone number. Having a website platform gives them an even more full suite for artists.
I also think DistroKid will be able to drastically improve Bandzoogle’s interface and feature set. A few years ago DistroKid was valued at $1.3 billion, so they likely have the resources to expand on the platform.
My guess is that DistroKid wants to be the place where artists do everything. The ‘X’ of the music world, so to speak.
Earlier this year DistroKid launched its first-ever iPhone app.
